Geneva II on Syria may start Dec. 12

The Geneva II Middle east peace conference on the peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict may begin on December 12 reported AFP on Thursday citing Syrian media.

According to them, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told his French counterpart Laurent Fabius that the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is preparing to announce the date of the conference, scheduled for December 12, in two weeks.

National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition forces at a meeting on 9-11 November in Istanbul issued a statement, which noted their willingness to participate in the Geneva II. Earlier, Russia and the United States had agreed to ensure the participation of both the Syrian government forces and the opposition forces.
